Senior Services Levies
In addition to state and federal funding, several Ohio counties, townships and villages use local senior services tax levies to enhance and expand services to older adults. Currently, 67 of Ohio's 88 counties operate countywide property tax levies. Seniors in Cuyahoga and Montgomery counties benefit from funds through human service levies. Voters in Union county have approved a sales tax levy, with revenue that is split evenly between senior services and infrastructure improvements.
Levy passages have increased significantly during the past decade, and currently generate more than $127.6 million statewide each year.
The Department of Aging and the aging network proudly support the efforts by communities to organize and support local levies. Here are a few resources that explain what levies are and how to start one in your area.
