On Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019, Governor Mike DeWine held a meeting in Canfield with his agency cabinet directors. As part of the day’s planned activities throughout the Mahoning Valley, Ohio Department of Aging Director Ursel McElroy visited the Girard Multi-Generational Center in Trumbull County to announce statewide grant awards for farmers’ market projects.

The Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) today announced it is awarding 11 grants totaling $440,000 to Ohio’s area agencies on aging to build or expand partnerships increasing access to nutritious food for low-income older Ohioans. Three $40,000 grants were awarded today to area agencies serving portions of the Mahoning Valley.

The deadline to nominate an outstanding older adult for the 2020 Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame is Friday, Nov. 29, 2019. Eligible nominees are native-born Ohioans or long-time Ohio residents age 60 and older who have contributed significantly to their communities, their lines of work, or other endeavors.
