Happy Grandparents Day Bookmark

By Ursel McElroy, Director, Ohio Department of Aging

Ursel J. McElroy, director of the Ohio Department of AgingOn behalf of the Ohio Department of Aging, I wish every grandparent, great-grandparent, and great-great-grandparent in Ohio a very happy Grandparents Day on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019.

Grandparents are the heart and soul of the family. They are a link to the past and a source of hope for younger generations.

Grandparents are teachers, mentors, and playmates. They are caregivers and a shoulder to cry on. And, for many children in Ohio, their Grandparents are their primary caregiver or a very important part of their lives.

Children look upon their grandparents with a special kind of love and respect that you just don’t see anywhere else. A child’s trust in a grandparent means the grandparent can help solve problems and be there for them in ways nobody else can. These relationships are invaluable.

Grandparents’ lifetimes and legacies build strong families and contribute to stronger communities.

Thank you, grandparents!
